Indian Ocean University also abbreviated as IOU is one of the oldest private higher learning institution located in Mogadishu, Somalia. IOU has been educating tomorrow's leaders and will be front line in the efforts to rehabilitate, and educate Somali youth so that they might function as a productive part of society and participate rebuilding the nation.
Indian Ocean University was founded 1993 by a group of Somali scholars with the aim of providing higher education and quality degree and associate degree programs to Somali Students, without going abroad in pursuit of education.

The President's Scholarship provides full educational scholarship to exceptional students entering freshmen. Recipients are identified through evaluation of the admission application materials. The criteria include academic achievement, life experience, family income, results of standardized test scores, extracurricular activities.
